Balayage — from the French ‘to sweep’ — is a freehand colouring technique that creates natural-looking highlights with softer, less noticeable regrowth. It’s the most popular colour request at Tiffany Frances.
We often use shades close to your natural colour that lighten softly over time and blend beautifully as they grow out — but we can brighten things up with fun, creative colours too.

What is balayage?
Colour is painted onto the hair by hand for a soft, blended, sun-kissed finish with movement and dimension — a few shades lighter than your base, transitioning smoothly from root to tip without streaks.
It works on dark and light hair alike, and your stylist will tailor it to frame your face. Because it grows out gracefully, it’s low-maintenance — no rushing back every month.

The Tiffany Frances “foilyage”
Our signature balayage uses foilyage: the colour is still hand-painted, but sections are wrapped in foil for greater saturation and lift, applied closer to the root.
The result is lighter, brighter and more defined than a standard balayage, for a vibrant, customised look.

Creative colour balayage
Blonde is the favourite for lighter bases, with reds and golden tones popular on darker hair — but there’s no reason not to have fun with pinks, vivid blues or deep purples.
Balayage suits medium to long hair best and can make hair look fuller towards the ends. It doesn’t work as well on short hair, so book a complimentary consultation and we’ll plan the right colour for you.
What to expect
Start with a free consultation and bring pictures of the look you love. On the day, your stylist sections your hair and paints the colour freehand, concentrating on the mid-lengths and ends so it melts from root to tip with no harsh lines.
